Ciao, Robert. |
So Robert Indiana has passed away. In my notebook I scribbled down some fun ideas about the world famous LOVE sculpture; I was actually going to draw a parody, after the idea had been settling in the depths of my notebook for months. Now it’s too late, and I’m just happy I didn’t hurry up. LOVE Park in Philadelphia has been a symbolic spot for the entire world skateboarding community; in 2002, after a stupid renovation aimed at stopping skateboarders from ollieing and flipping in the park caused Edmund Bacon skate for protest at age 92, the LOVE icon gained international resonance. To me it’s THE symbol of free skateboarding and I believe it’ll always be to many, many skaters. No parody. I decided it had to be a homage, and here it is. Bye, Robert. |
