a buffo? penso tra me e me; e rispondo “come scusa? che problema c’è?”
“ah no, eh? cioè tu stai qui e fai foto a chi ti pare?”
Completamente.

First of all: this photograph is a shit. literally. blurred, out of focus, dark, a horrible framing and doesn’t tell anything.
The fact is that the subject ain’t the picture. It’s the context.
SAIE of Bologna, a building fair, early October. During my lunch time, with people filling the corridors can I stop myself from shooting? No, obviously. I find a pillar ten feet away from two lanes crossing and I look for pictures among the faces with my 70-200. While I’m there silent and easy I see a guy, slightly younger than me, entering the frame and in one second he’s standing aside me and says in my ear: “Hey, do you know you can’t stand here shooting people “a buffo”? [lit. “as a funny man”; it has no meaning neither in italian]”
“a buffo”? I think to myself; and I answer back “Sorry, what? What’s your problem?”
“Don’t you know that you need permission to photograph people?”
“You’re damn wrong man, I don’t need any permission”
“Oh you think so? Well, you think you can stand here and shoot pictures of anyone?”
“Man, I’m sorry but this is the truth. If you want we may call the Police and solve any doubt”
“Good, that’s ok: let’s call the Police”
“No problem. Call them, I’m not running away”.
He hesitates a bit, then he suddenly goes away. I stay another twenty minutes and none comes.
Do you think he really called the Police?
People is dumb. Completely. I saw actually what hurted him: a glaring blonde walked with him and he was afraid I was taking pictures of her.
Ah, jealousy.
And incidentally I neither framed the blonde. No, she was not the one in this picture.
What ages;
nowadays a camera terrorizes. If I had a G11 instead of my Pentax MX I think that everyone would have alarmed way less.
No, I’m not talking ‘bout the Canon G11; I meant the Heckler&Koch G11, a West Germany assault rifle.
And to get what, then? This shit of a picture? 🙂
